Ellie grew up in a small town in the St. Louis area and attended the same schools as her father and grandmother. She came to Boulder to attend the University of Colorado and after graduation stayed in the western United States, spending the following years teaching sailing and backpacking for Outward Bound and other outdoor education organizations.
In 2006, she and her husband returned to Boulder. She got her teaching certificate, taught 5th grade in the Boulder Valley School District and ran the Cultiva Youth Project at Growing Gardens before taking time off to be with her two little girls, now 4 and 6. While home with her daughters, she took trainings to learn how to support students with specific reading disabilities and mentored with a local reading specialist. For the past two years, she’s loved having her own private practice teaching reading in Boulder and volunteering as a reading teacher in the Boulder Valley School District. She is thrilled to be joining the team at Hillside this fall!
In her free time, she swims, gardens, reads, and gets outside with her family as much as possible. She also loves to spend time with extended family and feels very lucky to have grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins nearby.
