Jason leads research and development at Applied Broadband.
Prior to starting AB, Jason was co-founder and CTO of Stargus, Inc., which pioneered network management and optimization software for early broadband networks. Formed in 2000, Stargus was acquired by ARRIS (ARRS – NASDAQ) in 2004.
Jason’s career in networking began at the age of 14, when he started a modem business — manufacturing 1200 bps dial-up modems in his bedroom and selling them through the local newspaper and to fledgling computer stores.
After obtaining degrees in electrical and computer engineering, Jason worked with Shaw Communications (SJR – NYSE), where he helped design one of North America’s first residential high speed data networks and spent several years as a visiting engineer at CableLabs™, serving as one of the original contributors to the DOCSIS Cable Modem.
A recognized innovator in broadband technology, Jason has authored numerous publications and filed multiple patents related to programmable networks and broadband systems.
Jason holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Colorado and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Calgary. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D in Interdisciplinary Telecommunications at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
In his spare time, Jason enjoys skiing, snowboarding, surfing, boxing, and coaching little league baseball. Jason lives in Colorado with his wife Sonia, two sons, Kaz and Bodan, and a feisty Chihuahua named Trixie.
