Many parents of students with learning differences feel isolated and frustrated by the lack of clear guidance they receive and the sheer volume of information available online. To minimize these challenges, Hillside School presents our speaker series, HillTOPICS, open to all who are interested in learning about, discussing, and sharing their experiences about learning differences.

Understanding Dyslexia (click here for description)
October 9, 2025 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
📅 Thursday, October 9th @12:30
If your child is struggling with reading, writing, or spelling, you may wonder if it could be dyslexia—or what dyslexia really means. This session is designed just for parents, to give you clear, supportive information you can use right away.
✨ What dyslexia is (and isn’t)
Dyslexia is a common learning difference that makes reading and writing harder—but it does not mean a child isn’t smart or motivated. In fact, many kids with dyslexia are highly creative, insightful, and capable learners.
✨ How it can show up in school
Dyslexia often affects reading and spelling, but it can also make writing—and even math (like remembering math facts or solving word problems)—more challenging. Knowing the signs can help you better understand your child’s experience.
✨ What really helps
Research shows that with the right kind of instruction, kids with dyslexia can thrive. We’ll share what works best, and how parents can partner with schools and teachers to support their child’s success.
This is a chance to get clear answers, ease worries, and feel more confident about how to help your child.
